Located on the banks of the seasonal Mohlabetsi River in the Big 5 Balule Nature Reserve, Nyala Safari Lodge offers a simple sense of luxury in iconic thatched rondawels (chalets). 

Each of the 5 chalets have indoor and outdoor showers, and 4 have deep-set baths. The well-appointed rooms are dotted around a main area housing a swimming pool, boma overlooking a waterhole, dining area, lounge, and bar. The entire lodge is shaded by weeping Boer-beans and ancient Jackalberry trees, ensuring respite from the heat during the sizzling summer months.

Activities include two game drives a day which depart at first light and late afternoon when the nocturnal predators are most active. For safari-goers wanting to capture the spirit of adventure, there are boma dinners available.

Located just 8 km from the Von Lindequist Gate on the eastern boundary of Etosha National Park, Mushara Lodge is an ideal overnight stop for visitors to the game reserve.

The lodge consists of ten spacious chalets, one family unit, a triple room and two single rooms. The name Mushara is derived from the Purple Pod Terminalia tree which grows abundantly on the lodge grounds and in the surroundings. The Danish couple Jørgen & Lisbeth Nielsen purchased the lodge in the beginning of 2022, and with 25 years of experience in running South African lodges, MILIMA has now been completely renovated into an all-inclusive 5 star safari lodge opening on the 1st. of September 2022.

Simbavati Grumeti is nestled on the open plains between the Serengeti National Park and the Grumeti River, within Tanzania’s fabled northern safari circuit. It is on these acacia dotted plains that multitudes of wildlife congregate all year round in a game viewing spectacular.

These plains also play host to vast herds of wildebeest, which assemble during their annual migration and move between the north and south of the Serengeti National Park. You may also be lucky enough to see buffalo, giraffe, lion and other wildlife from your tent and the lodge.

Twelve  luxury safari tents have a king-sized bed (which can be converted to twin), en-suite bathroom with outdoor showers, ample storage space, viewing deck and views over the plains.

In the ancient Namib Desert, surrounded by the majestic Tsaris Mountains and endless flat gravel plains, the tented Elegant Desert Camp is situated a mere 45km from Sesriem. Here the sky melts into the endless plains in a vista so vast it will take your breath away. Comprising only ten individual en-suite tents, nestled carefully amongst rugged boulders, this secluded little gem welcomes our guests to a world of vast spaces, endless horizons and jagged mountain heights. Dinner is a Namibian affair in our open sky Boma under infinite stars, next to a traditional fireplace where our legendary “braai” (barbeque) is prepared by our friendly and enthusiastic chefs.

We pride ourselves that The Elegant Desert Camp has minimal environmental impact. The building material used is 100 % removable and recyclable and much of it is biodegradable. For the gabion walls the natural occurring stones found here in abundance were meticulously selected and integrated. We took great care to make the Eco Camp 100% self-sustainable, harnessing the power of the sun for hot water and electricity, whilst our water comes from our own boreholes from sources deep beneath the earth. All waste generated is taken to the recycling plant in Windhoek.

The Wildlife Camp is situated in the Southern section of the Luangwa Valley. The Valley is in the Eastern Province of Zambia and forms the tail end of the Great Rift Valley.

Situated in unspoilt surroundings on the banks of the Luangwa River, the Camp has a variety of accommodation on offer from campsites and self-catering to fully catered chalets. The Camp has been designed around a 'rustic-original' theme whilst keeping comfort in mind. The self-catering option provides you with all the necessary kitchen utensil requirements plus fridge, freezer and bedding. There is also a cook on hand to prepare meals if required as well as the availability of a laundry service on request.

Whether guests choose to languish in the well stocked bar-cum-dining area that overlooks the park, or 'bush-out' at the campsite, the Camp ensures that one gets back to nature for an unforgettable bush experience. The Wildlife Camp operates under the auspices of the Wildlife and Environmental Conservation Society of Zambia for the benefit of the local community.

Day and night game drives are conducted in open vehicles, tracking down the variety of game to be seen in the South Luangwa National Park. Walking safaris are offered to experience Africa and its wildlife on foot in the park where this type of safari was born.

Detailed Itinerary: 1 night Nkwali Camp, 5 nights Mobile Walking, 1 night Nsefu/Tena Tena

Day 1: Nkwali Camp
On arrival at Mfuwe International Airport a guide from Robin Pope Safaris will meet you. The drive to Nkwali Camp is 1 hour through colourful local scenes of villages, agriculture as well as bush. Nkwali Camp has a wide view of the Luangwa River. Nkwali is located on Robin’s private land, overlooking the South Luangwa National Park and ideally situated for the start of your safari. The camp’s six rooms all look out over the river with open-air bathrooms. Depending on your arrival time during the day you will enjoy a lunch looking out over the lagoon or afternoon tea before the afternoon and night game drive.

Day 2: Mobile Camp
After an early breakfast, you will be heading north to start your walking mobile safari. Your drive is some 90kms to the Mupamadzi River along a bush road, through remote parts of the park. You arrive in camp for lunch around midday. The camp is already set up for your arrival with well-equipped walk-in tents. The shower is under a tree and the toilet is a long drop with a wooden throne. Enjoy a relaxing siesta after lunch, before tea and going for a walk around camp in the afternoon before returning for sundowners and dinner in the open under the stars!

Day 3: Mobile Camp
This morning will be up at sunrise for the morning walk to explore this remote and wild area with varied terrain and habitats where the game is shy and unused to man. From ants to buffalo, a bird’s nest to tracking a lion, you will learn the many facets of the bush. The mobile camp will be packed and moved to Camp 2 and lunch will be ready as you arrive late morning. Lunch will be followed by siesta and an afternoon walk.

Day 4 - 6: Mobile Camp
Day four will be spend exploring the area on foot before returning to the same campsite. On day five the camp will be moved again to camp 3 during the morning as you walk further down the river. The Mupamadzi River is a major tributary of the Luangwa. All walks are led by an experienced naturalist and accompanied by an armed game scout.

Day 7: Tena Tena or Nsefu Camp
After an early breakfast, transfer to the Luangwa River crossing point opposite Tena Tena. This is a 4 to 5 hour drive. Tena Tena staff will meet and boat the party across the river for a 20 minute drive to Tena Tena camp.

Pakamisa Private Game Reserve is situated in northern KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, on the outskirts of the town of Pongola. The town lies to the south of Swaziland and is the perfect link between the Kruger National Park and Durban.

The Reserve is in a remote area, providing the required isolation that has been dictated by the current Covid 19 virus protocols. In addition, the lodge offers only eight luxury suites limiting the number of guests to the Reserve – yet another positive during these unusual times.

Despite the difficult times that the world is facing, time stands still in the bush. Peace and quiet are our normal and nothing can beat a holiday in the African veld. The architect and interior designer of RockFig Safari Lodge were inspired by the Timbavati setting of this luxury South African safari lodge to create a relaxed ambience with indoor and outdoor guest spaces that segue into each other, and enable both communal and private moments suffused with an authentic bush feel.

Papyrus is a small cozy, but stylish guesthouse in the suburbs of Entebbe, about 15 minutes from Entebbe International Airport. As its name suggests, Kloof Street Hotel is situated in the popular Kloof Street, located close to Cape Town central. Whilst one of the larger properties in our portfolio, this spacious beauty still manages to hold on to the boutique feel that all Lion Roars properties are known and loved for. 

The ground floor has a restaurant and a coffee shop to get your day started on the right note. Camp Doros is deliberately small and intimate, and it is located in a core area for desert adapted black rhino with activities largely focused on finding the black rhino with an experienced and qualified Rhino Ranger team. Camp Doros is perched on a high bank overlooking a (generally) dry riverbed and groves of Mopane trees in the heart of Damaraland. Protected from the prevailing winds, the camp carries arguably the lowest environmental footprint of any camp in Namibia. Six shaded guest tents (one of which is a family unit) are raised on platforms and have twin and limited double beds, cupboards, solar power for lighting and charging points, as well as hot running showers and en suite flush toilets. The camp also has a spacious common area including bar serving area, dining room, lounge with fireplaces and a campfire deck, as well as a welcome plunge pool and sun deck. There is a focus on personalized service delivery, and this includes hearty and scrumptious meals which are prepared in a largely solar and wood-fired kitchen. Makuwa Safari Lodge is a bushveld retreat located in the Greater Kruger area on a private game reserve that bustles with buffalo, plains game and bird activity. Idyllic accommodation in whitewashed houses with thatched roofs and broad patios offers sweeping views of the wilderness and the distant Drakensberg Mountains. Manicured lawns dotted with acacia, marula and fig trees surround the lodge, while all around the property untouched bushveld provides a perfect habitat for a wealth of predators, mammals and birdlife.

Kafunta River Lodge is a classic Zambian safari lodge, combining all the essentials for a great safari, including its spectacular location at the edge of the floodplain. Beyond the plain, lies the Luangwa River – one of the best game viewing areas in the magical South Luangwa National Park. This is indeed the premier park in Zambia and one of the best national parks in Africa. The lodge was fully renovated in 2019 and offers a relaxed atmosphere and great attention to details. We love what we do and we can’t wait to share this with you!

At Kafunta River Lodge, each of the luxury private chalets, the main lounge and the dining decks overlook the game-rich floodplain. Our eight safari chalets stand on raised wooden platforms and have thatched roofs and private viewing decks. They are pleasantly decorated to match the local style. We also have two spacious luxury suites with extra-large en-suite bathrooms. Each suite features a cosy mezzanine with additional day beds and an open balcony. Our rooms all have comfortable sitting areas with coffee and tea facilities and a small fridge stocked with refreshing drinks.

Our rooms are configured as Twin Single (2 single beds), Double (Queen size bed) or Family rooms (Queen size bed and two single pull-out beds for children under 12 years old). Our rooms are fully air-conditioned, each with a patio overlooking our lush gardens. There are braai (BBQ) facilities on site, coffee bar / restaurant, secure parking and our units are serviced daily.

There are 17 Cabanas with en-suite bathrroms. Each Cabana sleeps two people each. We also have  2 Family Cabanas with a shared bathroom. Each Family Cabana sleeps 4 people each, suited to families. We also have 1 Honeymoon Suite sleeping Double only.

Furthermore the Accommodation in Southern Namibia at the Provenance Camp has air conditioning. At the same time the Cabanas are available on a bed only basis. In Addition to the Rooms being bed only all meals are served in our restaurant situated on a hill overlooking the Orange River.

Accommodation Southern Namibia at Felix Unite Provenance Camp is only 13km drive from the Namibian Border.

Angela Caratelli alongside her husband Damien, passionately manage Vilanculos Beach Lodge hands-on. You will more than likely be greeted by all members of this dynamic family throughout your stay.

The lodge is constructed from natural indigenous elements of thatch and local hardwood simbire poles, which have been combined in perfect harmony with plaster walls and wood frame doors and windows. The result is the relaxed yet stylish finish. The property extends right on to the beach and the lodge buildings are set back about 100m up the ridge, overlooking the sea.

Ukhozi Lodge truly captures the romance and intimacy of Africa. Superbly sculptured from stone, wood and glass, this stylish and uniquely designed lodge forms idyllic spaces and nestles subtly into the landscape. Views are spectacular and the beautiful rim-flow pool on the valley edge is simply iconic – offering guests an unequalled panoramic view of the river plains teaming with wild animals. Meandering bush paths connect 10 luxurious suites, each offering complete privacy with their own breath-taking vistas and private plunge pools.

Baobab Ridge lies within the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve and offers guests an up-market, comfortable, authentic and affordable wilderness experience. This small and intimate private lodge with only seven private suites sleeps a maximum of 16 guests, giving a feeling of serenity, far away from the masses.

The lodge can also be booked exclusively, giving our guests the ultimate private luxury safari. As a part of the Greater Kruger National Park, the Klaserie has no fences between it and the Kruger and can offer guests the full Kruger Park experience in open game viewers. The Klaserie Private Nature Reserve and its neighbour - the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve - are known for their excellent game viewing. 

Family owned and run, the lodge is a home away from home and prides itself on its relaxed, family atmosphere, wide smiles and friendly, welcoming staff. Situated within easy reach of the suites, the main lodge features a bar and lounge area, small TV room with satellite television and DVD player, free WiFi, outdoor terraces, guest bathrooms, a large dining room and an office.

Outdoors there is a comfortable open-air boma area with a fireplace. The swimming pool overlooks the surrounding bush and a small waterhole. The lodge is accessible to wheelchairs and is fully fenced from larger wildlife to ensure your safely.

Guests have full use of the indoor and outdoor living areas and all facilities.

Each tent has twin camp beds with linen and an en suite chemical toilet. Shared bucket shower tent with hot water off the fire. Tents have built-in insect nets. We need to take our own water and all equipment. Wild tented camping can be very enjoyable but please remember that we leave no trace of our stay and take all rubbish away with us. The wilderness tented camp supplies all linen blankets and pillows. The camp chairs have a backrest. You will need to bring your own towel. WiFi not available. 

We have realized that there are an increasing number of people who would prefer an affordable and rustic camp idea, especially when spending more time in the area. The Karoo Gariep Tent sleeps four guests in two separate tent compartments. The tent is furnished with a double bed in the back and two single beds in the front part, with private ablution facilities for each tent a mere thirty meters away! The tent is pitched in the New Holme Guest House Garden and has some privacy from the rest of the lodge. The three tents have access to all the facilities at New Holme. Linnen and towels are provided in the tented accommodation.

Rio Azul is a secluded resort in Mozambique, situated on a peninsula with the Indian Ocean on one side and the banks of the Govuro River on the other side. This stylish eco-lodge is a wonderful place to unwind and experience a wide range of beach holiday activities for all travellers.

The lodge offers accommodation which consists of 5 beach chalets and 2 luxury villas. Each chalet is en-suite with a shower and double basin. Set-up in an exclusive campsite in the Mababe concession that has a strict maximum of 20 vehicles for the whole concession at any given time. We will also have the opportunity to explore the surrounding wilderness on foot (please note that this activity is seasonal based on rains and grass height, your guide will determine the safety of walking in Mababe) to enjoy an up close and personal encounter with Botswana’s flora and fauna. It is important to note that night drives and guided walks are not permitted within the national parks and reserves. These activities are conducted outside the boundaries of the Moremi Game Reserve in the Mababe Private Reserve.

The camps tents are 4 x 3m Sahara style tents with high roof with a 2 x 3m en-suite bathroom and a 2 x 3m covered area in front of the tent. The tents are fitted with solid base camp beds made up with mattresses, sheets, duvets and pillows. The tents have en-suite long drop toilet facilities and a bucket shower at the rear of the tent. Showers can be ordered as hot, cold or warm and the water is heated in a bucket on the fire. Showers may be taken at any time but on Kalahari safaris the guide withholds the right to limit water use and showering depending upon the availability of water. Both hand towels and bath towels are supplied for the guests’ convenience but guests should bring their own personal items and toiletries.

Each tent has an oil/paraffin lamp on the veranda and in the bathroom and within the tent itself, a LED rechargeable camp light is supplied along with a side table in the sleeping area and in the bathroom. Although each tent has lighting and there are lamps strategically around the camp for navigation, an essential tool for your safari is a headlamp which lets you read a book at night in your tent or catch up with your safari journal as you listen to the sounds of the wild outside!

Lying as it does, deep in the scenic Drakensberg range, Lotheni and its picturesque resort offers comfortable and attractive self-catering chalets, cottages and campsites. Lotheni Resort is well known for its exquisite scenery and tranquil atmosphere. It overlooks the clear, tumbling waters of the Lotheni River which provides several attractions for visitors. The name “Lotheni” means “in the ashes” and comes from the burnt appearance of the shale found in this river valley. The Settler’s Museum, the original homestead of the Root family that settled in the Lotheni Valley in the late 1800s, provides a fascinating look back in time. Several relics linked to the history of the area are preserved in the museum. Wildlife includes species such as common and mountain reedbuck, grey reedbuck, eland, grey duiker, oribi, Cape clawless otter, mongoose and baboon. KuKaya has six beautiful and very spacious tented thatched chalets (5 doubles and one single), all with additional sleeping space available. There are lots of activities in the area, some offered by third parties – fishing, diving, snorkelling, markets, birding, photography, etc. etc. 

We are approximately 485km north of Maputo, 25km from Inhambane town, and 15km from Tofo, in Inhambane Province, Mozambique. All roads leading to the lodge are tarred, except for the last 4km, which is a well maintained gravel road. It has been hard packed with coral sand, making it easy to reach us with a normal passenger vehicle, without any difficulty. No 4×4 vehicle is needed but is good to have if you want to explore off the beaten track.

Kavinga consists of just 7 comfortable raised tents built on the edge of the cliff, facing east, with a view of the rising sun above the magnificent Zambezi Valley floor. Each tent has been designed with an emphasis on privacy and is surrounded by insect repellent gauze, allowing the air to circulate and contributing to maximum coolness. Each chalet is equipped with a tea and coffee station, although please remember that as we are solar powered we cannot fit each chalet with a kettle, thus we have made provisions for this by supplying flasks of hot water whenever you might require it – even early morning. Please do advise reception of your requirements or request a flask should you want at any time of day.

Please note that as we are solar based, there are no electric outlets in the chalets, however, there is a charging station at reception for all your devices.

Featuring a complete escape from urban distractions, our permanent tented camp is set along a Fig Tree ridge that follows the course of a small stream along the border of the Mara North Conservancy and the Maasai Mara National Reserve.

Set on 60 acres of privately owned land, Enkusero Mara is configured to offer its guests maximum privacy and exclusivity while being able to fully immerse themselves in the wild landscape that surrounds the camp. Completely unfenced from the neighbouring savannah, it is our priviledge to coexist harmoniously with the wildlife that abound this area of the reserve.

Xaxaba Camp is run by Afrika Ecco Safaris from the local Xaxaba community. It is located on a private island deep within the heart of the Okavango Delta, a world-heritage site renown for its abundance of wildlife. This is a true rustic, wilderness experience ideal for the wild at heart. The focus here is on the community, the wildlife and untouched views in an area not known to many visitors. The island overlooks the famous Chief’s Island, and guests will have the opportunity to enjoy walks on this island. There are plenty of activities to enjoy that cater for the adventurous. 

Expect mokoro trips in traditional canoes, fishing and visits to the local community village. There’s even an opportunity to celebrate golden hour in a special sundowner spot on the banks of the intricate waterways. Boat excursions are also availble, but only when the water levels are adequate (generally June/July) which you'd need to check beforehand.  

Bateleur Safari Camp is located in South Africas world renowned Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, an exceptional safari location. All artificial barriers between the Timbavati and the adjacent Kruger National Park have been removed and Bateleur Safari Camp itself shares unfenced borders with Kruger, allowing free animal movement.

This prime wilderness area boasts the Big Five, a large diversity of antelope species, the entire range of smaller predators, over 500 bird species, and a tremendous diversity of reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates. The landscape is typical of the undulating granitic Lowveld basin with large broad-leafed trees dominating the uplands, followed by Acacia woodlands, which give way to the large trees that form the riverine vegetation in the valley bottoms. Highly productive and open sodic areas dominate along the sandy riverbeds.

Bateleur Safari Camp is ideal for couples, singles and small groups who are looking for a Timbavati safari that simultaneously exceeds expectations and offers an up-close experience of the true African bush and wildlife. The feature of the camp’s central area is the covered, open-sided wooden deck that houses the lounge and dining areas and overlooks the riverbed and its seasonal waterhole. The comfortable lounge area is an ideal place for idle game viewing or relaxing with a good book and a cool drink between guided activities. Books are available from the library and drinks can be purchased from the bar. At mealtimes the dining area is the perfect location for enjoying sumptuous meals whilst absorbing the sights and sounds of the African bush. The wooden deck extends past the adjacent chemical-free swimming pool which allows guests to cool off in the heat of the day without missing the wildlife and birdlife that frequent the waterhole.

The central area is completed by a tastefully finished, low-walled boma area open to the stars with chairs set up around a central fireplace. This is an ideal place to relax around the fire and share stories of the day’s activities under a big African sky. Adjacent is the camp’s pizza oven and braai/barbeque area, where food is often prepared by the chef on the open fire.

Accommodating up to 16 people, the camp offers very spacious, comfortable safari units with a unique design. Each unit has: a thatched A-frame roof with supporting gum-pole structure and covered patio; canvas sides with large windows offering fixed mosquito screens and roll-down flaps; double wooden front doors with fixed mosquito screens and roll-down flaps for the top half; a large en suite bathroom.

The safari units vary in size, each sleeping 2-4 persons in comfort with spacious beds, quality linen, mosquito nets, bedside tables, solar powered bedside lamps, wardrobes, adequate storage facilities, a small safe, and a solar powered fan for the hot weather. Plug points are provided for charging camera batteries. Each spacious en suite bathroom has flush-toilet, basin and a hot-water shower. Some units have an interior bathtub and a private outdoor shower. Quality towels are provided.

When designing and building Bateleur Safari Camp, it was a priority to make as small a footprint as possible. Tented walls were chosen over concrete structures, allowing guests inside the units a closer interaction with the outdoors. No trees were removed during the building process, allowing the camp to unobtrusively blend into the surrounds. Literally hundreds of trees have subsequently been planted in and around the camp.

Regular 4-legged visitors that can be seen walking within the camp perimeter during the day include Nyalas, warthogs and bushbuck. Elephants, buffalo and rhino can often be seen walking through the riverbed in front of the camp. And at night, anything shorter than an adult elephant can, and often does, walk through the camp under the cover of darkness.

But also it is not really a safari lodge as it has only eight bandas, four on one side of the main house and four on the other, one tends to think of a safari lodge in terms of something quite a good bit larger. Onduli Ridge, named after the resident giraffe of the area, is built at the base of two south facing granite outcrops which are connected by a ridge. The area offers a lot with spectacular hiking trails with dramatic views and waterfalls. And then there is the spectacular bushman rock art where you can see some of the best examples in the world.

Ghanzi Trailblazers is a recreated San/Bushman village with amenities that Western cultures are accustomed to. It is situated 10 km south of Ghanzi, on the western side of the main highway. The camp is well signposted and therefore easy to find for self drives. The guests of Ghanzi Trail Blazers have the opportunity to get a glimpse of a San/Bushman culture that is fast disappearing.

Accommodation offered includes chalets, bushman huts and camping. The chalets have solar powered lights and en-suite bathrooms which are partially roofed, remaining open to the night sky.

The bushman huts are equipped with two stretchers with mattresses and mosquito nets, a bedside table, and a solar powered light. There are no en-suite facilities connected to the bushman huts, the guests camping and staying in the huts have use of a communal ablution facility.

The tents are placed in close proximity without encroaching on the other tents’ privacy, while the camp is located on a plateau set among the only basalt and granite extrusions on Shamwari – a truly magical setting.

The Central Kalahari game Reserve (CKGR) is the largest, most remotely situated reserve in Southern Africa, and the second largest wildlife reserve in the world, encompassing 52 800 sq kms.

During and shortly after good summer rains, the flat grasslands of the reserve’s northern reaches teem with wildlife, which gather at the best grazing areas. These include large herds of springbok and gemsbok, as well as wildebeest, hartebeest, eland and giraffe.

At other times of the year, when the animals are more sparsely distributed, the experience of travelling through truly untouched wilderness, of seemingly unending dimensions, is the draw.

The landscape is dominated by silver terminalia sandveldt, Kalahari sand acacias, and Kalahari appleleaf, interspersed with grasslands, and dotted with occasional sand dunes, pans and shallow fossil river valleys.

CKGR is unique in that it was originally established (in 1961) with the intention of serving as a place of sanctuary for the San, in the heart of the Kalahari (and Botswana), where they could live their traditional hunter/ gatherer way of life, without intrusion, or influence, from the outside world.

The camps tents are 4 x 3m Sahara style tents with high roof with a 2 x 3m en-suite bathroom and a 2 x 3m covered area in front of the tent. The tents are fitted with solid base camp beds made up with mattresses, sheets, duvets and pillows. The tents have en-suite long drop toilet facilities and a bucket shower at the rear of the tent. Showers can be ordered as hot, cold or warm and the water is heated in a bucket on the fire. Showers may be taken at any time but on Kalahari safaris the guide withholds the right to limit water use and showering depending upon the availability of water. Both hand towels and bath towels are supplied for the guests’ convenience but guests should bring their own personal items and toiletries.

Each tent has an oil/paraffin lamp on the veranda and in the bathroom and within the tent itself, a LED rechargeable camp light is supplied along with a side table in the sleeping area and in the bathroom. Although each tent has lighting and there are lamps strategically around the camp for navigation, an essential tool for your safari is a headlamp which lets you read a book at night in your tent or catch up with your safari journal as you listen to the sounds of the wild outside!

Gomoti Private is a small exclusive camp attached to Gomoti Plains Camp, offering total exclusivity and privacy for its guests. The design of the camp includes a small intimate dining and lounge area with its own private plunge pool. The first impression, after driving down the sandy road to reach us, is of rich green foliage, colourful flower borders and rolling lawns with thatched cottages scattered around the gardens.  Then, looking through the open main lodge building with lounge, restaurant, and sun decks the Zambezi flows past with a vast wild national park on the opposite bank.

The main lodge building has a large and airy upstairs viewing lounge overlooking the river, inside and outside dining space and sociable lounging furniture on tiered decks.  This is the central meeting place for guests – for briefings, for meals (although guests can choose to eat on their own verandas) and for swapping stories over drinks around the fire pit.

The craggy heights of the Mountain Zebra National Park’s Bankberg embrace rolling plains and deep valleys, and have become an entrancing preserve for the Cape Mountain Zebra. The proclamation of the park in 1937 saved these animals from extinction, and currently their population stands at 300 where they roam 28 412 hectares of land. Other mammals found here include the cheetah, Cape buffalo, black rhino, eland, black wildebeest, red hartebeest and gemsbok, while mountain reedbuck and grey rhebok frequent the higher areas. Caracal occupies the niche of primary predator.

The Heritage Safari Lodge was originally built in the 1940’s as a hotel and was a landmark pit stop for weary travelers between Maputo and Durban. Ohorongo Tented Camp is a small camp, catering to guests in just four tents, so the experience and atmosphere around the camp is intimate and peaceful.
