Sanctuary Retreats was born in Africa with the first of our Sanctuary Lodges, Sanctuary Olonana, in Kenya in 1999. We now own and operate additional lodges and camps in Botswana, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. Building on our heritage of luxury adventure travel, we also manage and run six spectacular river cruise ships in some of the most amazing cultural and ecological sites in the world. Sanctuary Swala is located in an exceptionally private section of the Tarangire National Park, offering visitors a luxurious and exclusive safari experience. Elephant in particular love to come to the camp to drink at the water hole and big cats are often seen among the massive baobab trees.
Sanctuary Swala has been built to the highest eco-friendly standards and offers 12 luxurious open-plan and spacious canvas tents; all shaded by acacia trees and within site of the waterhole frequented by elephants and big cats. Each tent has an ensuite bathroom with indoor and outdoor shower and features a spacious open plan arrangement with comfortable king or twin beds, campaign chairs and plush sofas.
A hair dryer, ceiling fan, in room safe, mosquito nets and private deck are available in all tents. Each tent has a personal attendant to attend to guests’ every need. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available in the main area and in all guests’ tents.
The main dining area, deck and library are lifted on stilts around an enormous and ancient baobab tree. Electricity supply is a combination of silent packed generator and battery system allowing 24-hour power supply

Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Lodge is nestled deep inside Bwindi Impenetrable Forest; a UNESCO World Heritage Site in southwest Uganda, home to almost half the world’s last surviving mountain gorillas.
Located within Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Lodge is the perfect base from which to track the park’s most famous resident – the mountain gorilla. Due to its unique location, it’s not unusual for the gorilla families to visit the camp itself. This luxury camp features ten rooms and a bar, lounge and dining area overlooking the rainforest.

Botswana’s Okavango Delta is a paradox: a vast patchwork of waterways, lagoons and islands on the edge of the Kalahari Desert. Generally flooded in the summer months, it retains its watery features all year and is home to many of Africa’s iconic species. Exploring by motor launch or mokoro (canoe), you see everything from hippos to exquisite painted reed frogs, while lions, leopards and wild dogs hold their territories here all year. Sanctuary Stanleys Camp is built on a 260,000 acre private concession in the renowned Okavango Delta. Sanctuary Ngorongoro Crater Camp is located in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area - situated in the Ngorongoro Crater rim valley, close to the access road into the crater, giving guests unrivaled access to the crater floor.
The park is full of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo and elephants.
