The cost of aviation fuel in Botswana has increased dramatically over the past few weeks and months. The price of aviation fuel is now up by just over 100% on a year ago. The Botswana based charter companies have tried their best to absorb these costs but they now have no option but to pass the additional costs onto passengers in the form of a fuel surcharge.
Natural Selection’s main suppliers of inter-camp flights in and around the Okavango and northern Botswana are Major Blue Air and Mack Air. Both have formally notified Natural Selection of fuel surcharges of 17% and 13% respectively applicable as from 1 August 2022. These increases are proving challenging for the entire safari industry as it imposes a huge administrative and financial burden on all of us.
Natural Selection will partially absorb this increase. We will only introduce the fuel surcharge for flights departing on or after Friday 12th August 2022. This applies to all existing bookings including paid, confirmed, invoiced, provisional, COVID delayed and for all new bookings.
We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause and we thank you for your understanding of this difficult and challenging situation. Your Natural Selection consultant will be in communication with you regarding the additional invoicing applicable to your bookings.
