The Blue Train has an aura of mystique about it. Kings and presidents have travelled on this magnificent moving five-star hotel.
The routes of The Blue Train - both scheduled and chartered - take you between Pretoria, Cape Town and Durban through some of the most breathtaking countryside to be found anywhere in the world.
The suites live up to The Blue Train’s reputation for magnificence and splendour. The finest bed linen, marble tiles and gold fittings in the en suite bathrooms and sheer overall luxury ensure that you will never forget your time spent on The Blue Train.
For the comfort of guests, all suites have individual temperature controls.
Each coach has a butler to attend to your every need. The train manager is also on call at all times.
The telephone in each suite allows you to contact the train manager or butler 24 hours a day. Local or international calls can also be made.
The on-board services include: a variety of delicious snacks and beverages served in your suite on request; a limited on-board laundry and valet service; safes in all the suites and a luggage van for additional luggage.
As the sky darkens over the landscape, the days smart-casual dress code gives way to a parade of elegant eveningwear or traditional attire, in keeping with The Blue Trains classic livery and earthy African décor.
Each meal is accompanied by a selection of tasteful background music, ranging from smooth jazz to light classical to the mellow tones of the Soweto String Quartet.
The Blue Trains legendary cuisine is prepared from the freshest produce and ingredients, and accompanied by award-winning cultivars from the Cape winelands.
All special dietary requirements are accommodated, and a Continental or full English breakfast is served at your leisure.
The jewellery boutique on The Blue Train is a treasure trove of gems and minerals as rich as Africa itself. It includes an exquisite collection of wildlife jewellery designed and manufactured by internationally acclaimed jewellers.
Each of The Blue Trains has two lounges: the elegant lounge car, serving high tea every afternoon, is resplendent with original works of South African art adorning the walls, plush and comfortable couches and bouquets of flame lilies; the club car offers a relaxed atmosphere of a gentlemens club and provides the only public area available for smoking.
A camera mounted on the front of both trains provides you with a unique drivers-eye-view of the scenery ahead. The unfolding journey is shown on a TV screen in the club car as well as on one of the TV channels allowing you a private viewing from the comfort of your own suite.
