Katavi National Park

NATURE IS A DRINK BEST TAKEN NEAT. BEING OUT THERE IN THE IMMENSITY OF A CHADA NIGHT, GIVES YOU GALLONS OF THIS INTOXICATING LIQUOR.

It’s a deeply respected tradition at Chada to escape from main camp and sleep out in the real middle of nowhere. It’s what we LOVE doing. There is no place in the world that feels like Katavi and nothing gets you quite as close to that feeling than fly camping.

We send an advance party out to pitch camp and walk you in for couple of hours, to arrive just before sunset.  The trick is to leave as much as possible behind: stuff, other people, current affairs. This is your chance to see Katavi like we did before we had a “proper” camp. (Some may argue this is the "proper" camp.)

There’s a million wild acres of Katavi to head into, where humans hardly ever venture. Part of our skill is keeping you safe in such a wild place, the other is picking the perfect campsite, beside open floodplains, under the shadiest trees, for the widest stretch of night-sky. 

A CLASSIC EXPEDITIONARY CAMP IN A MILLION ACRES OF MAMMALS.

When we first pushed into Katavi way back, no one had signed the park guestbook for a decade; camp was three bedrolls and a fire. We went feral in the freedom of being amongst such concentrations of beasts. Though weve upgraded since then, with comparative luxuries like showers and silverware - we stay faithful to how that felt, and our outpost still sits amongst the elephants, bellowing hippos and tamarind trees.

Join the lions observing the thousand head herds of buffalo on the Katuma Plains, visit the park for the African connoisseur.

Set on the edge of the Katisunga plain, nestled in the fringe of woodland that skirt this seasonal lake, Katavi Wildlife Camp blends seamlessly into its environment, enjoying one of the best views in the park.

In the center of Katavi National Park lies Mbali Mbali Katavi, offering an exciting bush experience with breathtaking views over the vast plains of Katisunga. Mbali Mbali Katavi is ideal for the traveler looking for a truly remote experience away from regular tourist routes. In this park, you will find animals curious and unfamiliar to human contact. The flotillas of pelican are a special sight. Game drives are offered twice a day with an optional night game drive.
