With over 37 years of experience operating camps, lodges and outfitting safaris in East Africa, the New African Territories team has an extremely robust local knowledge based on first hand experience, making us a great partner to have on ground in East Africa. We are based in Nairobi, the team takes care of all the reservations for our own fabulous wild array of properties, Alex Walker's Serian Camps in Kenya and Tanzania, Sabuk Lodge and Camel Safaris, Tawi Lodge in Amboseli, Maasai Trails, Kitich Forest Camp in the Mathews Mountains & Nkwichi Lodge on Lake Malawi. The operations team arranges any other bookings and 3rd party reservations, flights, transfers, meet & greets and so forth.

Our long standing roots here ensure that we are committed to support this incredible continent that we love so much and our involvement in the safari/tourism industry is founded on a deep love and respect for East Africa.

We remain driven, inspired, and passionate about what we all do and what we stand for. We are so lucky to live in a part of the world that is not "out of sync" with its environment. Enabling us to be resilient and adaptable, very much like the camps that we operate.

Maasai Trails

Country: Kenya

Destination: Masai Mara

Property Group: New African Territories

Style: Mobile Tented Camp

Number of Rooms: 7

Maasai Trails is all about your guides, local Maasai from the Loita area, who are eager to share their customs and culture, whilst teaching you the lore of the bush. The Loita Maasai who lead you on these trails are reputed to be the most conservative of this tribe, dedicated to their traditions, ceremonies and rites of passage. As a people, the Maasai have struggled over the years to maintain their culture and have shied away from large scale developments and lodges that comprise other parts of Eastern Africa… thus is the beauty of Maasai Trails. This small low impact camp and mobile camp are a sustainable method to bring income to the local people whilst protecting the natural surroundings of the Loita Hills and sacred Forest, as well as their culture!

The Trails can vary in number of days and any number of people can join from one up to 14, but the trails stay the same and all begin from a base Camp where the donkeys who carry the camp are weighed and packed. Whether one wants to walk into the sacred Loita forest to a hidden waterfall, to the edge of the Great Rift Valley, or find a way of combining all the trails … the beauty of Maasai Trails is the flexibility, and they are happy to accommodate any experience in this beautiful wilderness.
