Savute Safari Lodge

Country: Botswana

Destination: Savuti

Property Group: Desert & Delta

Style: Safari Lodge

Number of Rooms: 12

Online availability: Click Here

Savute Safari Lodge is currently closed for a complete rebuild, and will re-open in June 2024.

The photos here are renders of what the camp will look like when complete.

With the waterhole in front of the lodge being such a focal point of the Savute experience, a lot of work has gone into making the main area and sunken hide one of the most thrilling places to be in Botswana. All guest rooms have views over the Savute Channel ensuring dramatic wildlife viewing.

The sophisticated, yet simple interior décor, blends elements of a traditional safari lodge with a clean, contemporary feel while the colour palate draws inspiration from the harsh and dramatic contrasts of the dry Savute region.

Our top tips:

  • While Savute Safari Lodge is closed, we can offer alternative options in the Savute region within our affordable package rates. Please contact info@desertdelta.com for more information.

  • Our rates and package deals remain the same. No increases.

  • While Savute offers intense wildlife viewing in the dry season (June – October), we recommend Savute Safari Lodge for green season itineraries. The Savute Marsh sees large numbers of migrating zebras, and the region transforms into a wildlife and birding paradise.

  • Savute Safari Lodge will be the first Desert & Delta lodge offering a luxurious outdoor shower in each room.

Property Group: Desert & Delta

Style: Safari Lodge

Number of Rooms: 12

Online availability: Click Here

Xugana Lagoon is widely recognised as the most spectacular permanent water site in the entire Okavango Delta, which itself is Africa’s largest and most awe-inspiring oasis. The Okavango River rises in the highlands of Angola yet never reaches the sea; instead its immense waters empty over the sands of the Kalahari, where the great thirst of the desert is quenched in a wilderness of freshwater lagoons, channels and islands.

THE LODGE

Xugana Island Lodge is set in the heart of the Okavango Delta’s most breathtaking permanent water site. Weave through the channels and winding waterways by motorboat before reaching the spectacular Xugana Lagoon—a vast, lily-dotted expanse framed by papyrus reeds.   Here, primely positioned on a private concession, the lodge immediately impresses with its Overwater Fire-Deck, extending from the main lodge onto the lagoon. As one of the first-ever delta lodges, Xugana Island Lodge has long been defined by its deep connection to the environment, exceptional service, and true tranquillity.

Following a stunning recent rebuild, these values remain unwavering, reflected in a design that echoes the splendour of this incredible ecosystem now more than ever.  The lagoon and its wildlife are central, and views are on full display from the pool and bar to the multi-level dining, lounge and viewing decks that comprise the main areas. En-suite Luxury Tents and a two-bedroom Luxury Family Tent line the island’s edge.  Each tent draws inspiration from the lagoon’s blue hues and natural textiles, and views are both expansive and immersive, thanks to unique enclosed decks that create an indoor-outdoor experience.

Xugana Island Lodge has begun its next chapter, continuing its revered legacy with new style and old soul—in a league entirely of its own.

ACCOMMODATION

Xugana Island Lodge preserves privacy by hosting only 22 guests, enhanced with spacious, lagoon-facing Luxury Tents that each feature en-suite bathrooms, outdoor showers and enclosed viewing decks.  The lodge’s true symbiosis with its surroundings not only delivers a standout design but absolute tranquillity. All tents are generously spaced and are set within the island’s lush greenery.

ACTIVITIES & WILDLIFE SIGHTINGS

Xugana Island Lodge’s sense of wonder meets adventure with activities that include motorboat safaris, catch-and-release fishing with supplied gear, mokoro (traditional canoe) excursions, guided walking safaris, and world-class birdwatching.  Scenic helicopter flights over the Okavango Delta are available at an additional charge. This doors-off experience is fantastic for avid photographers and those keen to witness one of Botswana’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites as the birds do—from above!

All activities are conducted by experienced professional guides.

Sabi Sabi Selati Camp

Country: South Africa

Property Group: The Sabi Sabi Collection

Number of Rooms: 7

Online availability: Click Here

Imagine the Africa of the great safari era, when blazing sunsets melted into lantern lit romance and service was an effortless whisper. This is the Africa you will experience at Sabi Sabi’s Selati Camp, an award winning luxury game lodge in South Africa.

During the 1870’s, high in the crevices of the Drakensberg escarpment which rises to the west of Sabi Sabi, gold was discovered. To transport the gold, the parliament of the Old Transvaal Republic commissioned a railway line from the interior to Delagoa Bay in Mozambique. A branch railway known as the Selati Line crossed the Sabi Sand Reserve.

Today the line is disused but the old railbed can still be seen in the north-eastern section of Sabi Sabi, close to Selati Camp. Sabi Sabi’s intimate all-suite Selati Camp is an unforgettable African experiences. It offers the perfect accommodation for travellers looking for a romantic luxury safari lodge in South Africa. Selati is furnished with a historic railway theme and is meticulously created as an authentic home in the bush. The railway theme extends from the original steam engine name plates, signals and shunter’s lamps lighting the way to your suite, to interesting memorabilia and other collector’s pieces in each suite.

Nights at Selati are quiet, intimate and possessed of a rare magic. Under the spectacular canopy of the Southern night sky the camp is still romantically lit by the gentle flicker of oil lamps and lanterns, and the warm glow of fires.

With its classic vintage styling, this exclusive lodge comprises seven opulent thatched suites, each with full bathroom en-suite and private alfresco shower nestled under majestic indigenous trees. World-class cuisine is served on wooden thatched decks built alongside the Msuthlu riverbed, in the open air “boma” or in the “farmhouse kitchen”.

The premier accommodation at Selati Camp is the sumptuous and spacious Ivory Presidential Suite, which is a favourite amongst Kings, Queens, and those just looking for exceptional accommodation. It offers grandeur in the form of original antiques, a draped four-poster bed looking out onto your private terrace and has a private plunge pool. The magnificent en-suite bathroom, complete with Persian carpet and antique chaise-lounge, also features a quiet space surrounded by the sounds of the bushveld. The separate dressing room features an antique wardrobe and matching dressing table.

The Lourenco Marques Suite is a must for honeymooners or the romantic at heart. Whether it is the fragrant flower petals strewn on the exquisite bedlinen, or the candles illuminating the bathroom on return from the evening safari, a stay in this romantic suite will always be remembered.

Sabi Sabi’s Selati Camp combines turn of the century elegance with personalised safari luxury – a rare experience.

The Wallow Lodge

Introducing The Wallow Lodge

If you had to write one sentence for a white water rafting trip, one for a luxury lodge and one for a home-hosted meal, they would all sound very different. But underneath all the adjectives and superlatives, every Wild Horizons product tells the same story: Wander wildly and tread lightly, remembering that your journey has the power to make an impact. The new Wallow Lodge is no exception.

A Hidden Gem In The Heart Of The Wilderness

The Wallow Lodge is located in the Wild Horizons Wildlife Sanctuary, a private concession in the Victoria Falls National Park. A birds-eye view of the area would show you the silver-blue shimmer of the Masuwe River, snaking across a mosaic of green and gold wilderness. The landscape is punctuated by the black basalt gorge, where the rapids of the Zambezi River froth 140 meters below the edge. The ‘Smoke That Thunders’ hangs like a heavy white cloud above the treetops on the horizon. A closer look reveals the canvas suites and main area, blending in seamlessly with the environment on the banks of the Masuwe River. This is a destination of exceptional beauty, and The Wallow Lodge reflects the landscape.

All Wild Horizons Lodges are uniquely and thoughtfully designed to have their own character, but the golden thread tying them together can be seen in Craig White’s signature style that emphasizes sustainability and space. With only 16 suites to accommodate a maximum of thirty-two guests, The Wallow Lodge is perfect for families and small groups who want to reconnect with nature and spend quality time together. Victoria Falls is a short twenty-minute transfer from the lodge, giving guests the freedom to tailor-make their experience and find a balance between the exclusivity of the bush and the excitement of Africa’s Adventure Capital.

The Main Lodge

Panoramic views of the Masuwe River form the backdrop of the main area, cleverly incorporating the unrushed rhythm of nature into the open plan design. There is an echo of the elements in the infinity pool and sunken firepit, both of which overlook the river from an expansive deck. The furniture is earthy and sophisticated, brought to life with splashes of colour. The effect is captivating yet calming and epitomizes the inherent unpredictability of Africa. The Wallow Lodge embodies the simplicity and authenticity of safari life, with a modern freshness about it.

The Suites

Enchanting and intimate, the sixteen suites are ideally situated to overlook the Masuwe River and surrounding wilderness. The imaginative use of canvas preserves the romance of yesteryear with a classic safari atmosphere, accentuated with all the modern creature comforts. Each room is raised beneath the shade of ancient riverine trees, and from this elevated vantage point, guests can enjoy uninterrupted views of the river from their private balcony. The décor is simple yet elegant with wooden furnishings and potted plants. There is a touch of ‘bush bohemia’ in the vibrant ‘chitenge’ cushion covers, ensuring an authentic translation of local culture in the decorative theme. The attention to detail strikes a perfect balance between contemporary, homely touches without detracting from the surrounding wilderness.

Shining A Spotlight On Sustainability

Wild Horizons represents the sharp edge of transformative, sustainable travel that demonstrates the value of protected wilderness areas. Sustainable technology such as solar power, environmentally friendly decking, and non-disposable products ensure that every journey leaves a light footprint on the land. At the same time, the activities create synergy between guests and the environment. For example, guests are invited to tour The Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust, located in the Wild Horizons Wildlife Sanctuary. This gives them an insiders perspective on the innovative conservation initiatives that help mitigate human-wildlife conflict, further our knowledge of keystone species, and safely rehabilitate injured wildlife. The safari experience has been reimagined beyond a wilderness experience to include community, conservation and meaningful immersion.
