Chula Island Camp is a stunning tented camp with all the luxuries one could wish for, but with the charm and ethos of a true seasonal bush-camp. With just 5 guest tents, catering for no more than 10 people in camp at once - each tent is carefully and expertly located for the best possible views across the Zambezi River. The Chula tents are bespoke and very comfortable, with high quality linen and mattresses, alongside flushing toilets, running water taps and traditional bucket-showers! A main area stretch-canvas tent set beneath massive Natal Mahogany trees makes for an exceptional location for meals, reading, charging cameras and wildlife watching.

Three Rivers Camp is a luxury tented safari lodge set at the confluence of the Luangwa, Kapamba and Lusangazi Rivers in South Luangwa, Zambia. The stylish tents sit under shady sausage trees facing the Luangwa River or the game-rich lagoon.

Three Rivers Camp is the first camp to be established on the border of the Malama Chiefdom and the national park. Its location is simply spectacular. The rooms are set far apart with the wildlife passing through camp. The dining area offers boundless views of both the Luangwa and the Kapamba River where hippos love to bask on the white river sand. Three of the tents are positioned right on the edge of the oxbow lagoon, teeming with wildlife, and our guests can relax on the plush daybeds while observing giraffes and waterbucks strolling by. For the guests moving on to Island Bush Camp next, we recommend the experience of walking between both camps.

Overlooking the banks of the Luangwa River listening to the soothing sounds of the bush relax and surround yourself with the wildlife of South Luangwa. Watch as herds of elephants cross the river, giraffe come to drink, hippos bathe in their pods, monkeys chatter through the trees and if you are lucky watch the cats amble down the river banks in search of their next meal. Take a dip in our refreshing pool overlooking the river as you allow nature to revive and soothe the soul. Soak in the stunning views with a cold drink from the bar and enjoy as the many animals cross the river at sundown, in what can arguably be one of the best sunset spots in Africa. 

After falling in love with the Busanga Plains, we built Chisa Busanga Camp to mimic its surrounds through beautiful architecture and environmentally conscious design.

Chisa is the Nyanja word for ‘birds nest’, and the rooms were inspired by the weaver bird nests that decorate the trees here. Sitting on a small tree-lined island, the camp uses only solar power as do the game drive vehicle and bicycles used to explore the watery dambos beyond.

Chisa Busanga Camp celebrates the natural and cultural heritage of the Busanga Plains, a place that will leave an indelible imprint on your mind, as it has on ours.

Introducing the Sunset House, our latest and exclusive lodging option nestled near Kafunta River Lodge, on the edge of the South Luangwa National Park. The name Sunset House is inspired by the breathtaking sunsets witnessed over the Luangwa River, a particularly enchanting moment to share with friends and family.

The Sunset House is composed of two separate units. The main unit has two spacious en-suite bedrooms (one with a king size bed and one with twin beds)  with a comfortable lounge in between. A few meters away, the adjacent unit houses the third en-suite bedroom with a king-sized bed. 

The bedrooms are super spacious with a sitting area, where an extra bed can be accommodated. In total the Sunset House can therefore host up to 9 guests. 

The outdoor area boasts a generously-sized swimming pool, surrounded by an expansive deck with comfy chairs and shaded by umbrellas. It also include a dining area, and extends to a lower deck complete with a cozy fireplace – the perfect spot to enjoy the sunset!

Mukambi Safaris has a luxury bush camp called Fig Tree Bush Camp in an undiscovered part of Kafue National Park.

Predators like lion, cheetah, leopard and hyena are regular visitors as well as the wild dog who prey on the concentration of game.

The camp has 4 tented chalets on 3-meter high platforms above the ground, 3 of them giving a spectacular view over the Shishamba river and the 4th tent facing the plains, overlooking the watering hole in front of the infinity pool. At the lagoon in front of the boma, various animals can be spotted when they come to drink. 

Our small camp consists of just five thatched chalets which are accompanied by open-air en-suite bathrooms at the rear, with flushing toilets, plumbed sinks and taps and warm bucket showers. There are two main areas, one a raised deck overlooking the vast Busanga Plains and another a bird hide cum sitting area to recline use in the heat of the day! The main deck supplies power for charging cameras and other devices and has a small bar for refreshments.

A little woodland camp, where impala and bushbuck graze and birds drink at the waterholes. This is a wild space where you sit around the evening fire listening to the sounds of nature.   And you don’t leave your tent at night in case you inadvertently meet Mr Hippo grazing your personal lawn - you just wake up in the morning and look out and think was he really so close?.  Imagine!

We are privileged to have wild woodlands where an abundant supply of water attracts birds and small mammals.  Impala and bushbuck graze here, and a wide variety of birds find safety for feeding, drinking, nesting.

We created The Woodlands for birders who want peace and quiet to sit among the trees and observe, but it’s proved so popular that we have opened it to those wanting that special wilderness feeling without sacrificing comfort and luxury.

Guests have the service of a butler/groundsman/guard 24/7.  Breakfast is served on the Woodlands lounge veranda where you can also keep cool in the heat of the day, invite friends made at the lodge for a surprise drink, or just sit and watch the birds go by.   

​The Waterberry restaurant, sun decks and swimming pool, all used by Woodlanders, are a short walk down sandy paths.

Our  tents are hugely popular with guests loving the wild experience, but also loving the luxury furnishings, the fully fitted dressing rooms and en suite bathrooms and the private verandas surrounded by individual gardens.

​Tents are double or twin, with seating inside and out and plenty of storage for

clothes and luggage.  This super little hideaway is perfect for relaxing and is also available for exclusive use.

Located deep within the park in an area renowned for Leopard, Kaingo Camp offers just 6 traditional brick and thatch rooms nestled discretely along the banks of the Luangwa River.

Large, gauzed windows and skylights offer uninterrupted views and a real sense of being immersed in nature.  The spacious and beautifully styled rooms feature comfortable king size beds, solar powered charging points and fan, with the choice of indoor shower or indulgent outdoor bathtub.   When not out on activity, guests can enjoy the sights and sounds of the bush from their shaded veranda, day bed or private viewing deck perched high above river.

At the heart of this friendly and relaxed camp, guests can come together in our open sided lounge and dining area, sharing a drink over the thousand-year-old leadwood bar.

Our lower deck extends out over the Luangwa with large, comfy sofas for guests to curl up and enjoy the sights and sounds of the river and its wild residents.

Two of our world-famous hides are just a short drive from the camp.  The towering Elephant Hide, sited at an ancient elephant crossing point on the river, and the Hippo Hide. Built into the riverbank and offering a breath-taking, eye-level perspective of our resident hippo pod.

The four tented camp, perched on the edge of a high bank above a channel of the Zambezi, is the perfect intimate experience of the wild. Whether you take the whole camp for a big group, or just one tent for two, you can relax in true style, watching the river go by.

Kafunta River Lodge is a classic Zambian safari lodge, combining all the essentials for a great safari, including its spectacular location at the edge of the floodplain. Beyond the plain, lies the Luangwa River – one of the best game viewing areas in the magical South Luangwa National Park. At Kafunta River Lodge, each of the luxury private chalets, the main lounge and the dining decks overlook the game-rich floodplain. Our eight safari chalets stand on raised wooden platforms and have thatched roofs and private viewing decks. They are pleasantly decorated to match the local style. We also have two spacious luxury suites with extra-large en-suite bathrooms. Each suite features a cosy mezzanine with additional day beds and an open balcony. Our rooms all have comfortable sitting areas with coffee and tea facilities and a small fridge stocked with refreshing drinks.

The Plains Camp is the seasonal luxury bush camp of Mukambi Safaris located deep in the heart of the famous Busanga Plains in the north of beautiful Kafue National Park. The Busanga Plain is 720km2 of palm groves, papyrus-choked reed beds and lily-covered lagoons representing one of the few wetland wildernesses in the world − a place where authentic African wildlife thrives, and the safari experience is second to none.

A wide variety of species is found on the plains including Lion, Cheetah, African Buffalo, Hippopotamus, Oribi, Roan, Lechwe, Zebra and Blue Wildebeest. In addition, large numbers of elephants and 500 bird species are recorded.

The raised boma (communal area), with open campfire and dining area, is rustic, informal and overlooks the openness of the plains, only interrupted by tree studded islands where fig trees and wild date palms draw their nutrients from the remains of giant anthills. Relax and enjoy a refreshing dip in our pool or sunbathe on the wooden deck whilst overlooking the surrounding wetlands. A wooden viewing platform on stilts tucked away high up in the characteristic fig tree above the boma offers a breath-taking view directly onto the floodplain.

The first impression, after driving down the sandy road to reach us, is of rich green foliage, colourful flower borders and rolling lawns with thatched cottages scattered around the gardens.  Then, looking through the open main lodge building with lounge, restaurant, and sun decks the Zambezi flows past with a vast wild national park on the opposite bank.

The main lodge building has a large and airy upstairs viewing lounge overlooking the river, inside and outside dining space and sociable lounging furniture on tiered decks.  This is the central meeting place for guests – for briefings, for meals (although guests can choose to eat on their own verandas) and for swapping stories over drinks around the fire pit. 

​We’ve private areas all over the lovely grounds – you can sit on the river deck, seek shade in our upstairs lounge, watch birds from the raised platform by the dam or catch a nap on a lounger by the pool. Detailed Itinerary: 1 night Nkwali Camp, 5 nights Mobile Walking, 1 night Nsefu/Tena Tena

Day 1: Nkwali Camp
On arrival at Mfuwe International Airport a guide from Robin Pope Safaris will meet you. The drive to Nkwali Camp is 1 hour through colourful local scenes of villages, agriculture as well as bush. Nkwali Camp has a wide view of the Luangwa River. Nkwali is located on Robin’s private land, overlooking the South Luangwa National Park and ideally situated for the start of your safari. The camp’s six rooms all look out over the river with open-air bathrooms. Depending on your arrival time during the day you will enjoy a lunch looking out over the lagoon or afternoon tea before the afternoon and night game drive.

Day 2: Mobile Camp
After an early breakfast, you will be heading north to start your walking mobile safari. Your drive is some 90kms to the Mupamadzi River along a bush road, through remote parts of the park. You arrive in camp for lunch around midday. The camp is already set up for your arrival with well-equipped walk-in tents. The shower is under a tree and the toilet is a long drop with a wooden throne. Enjoy a relaxing siesta after lunch, before tea and going for a walk around camp in the afternoon before returning for sundowners and dinner in the open under the stars!

Day 3: Mobile Camp
This morning will be up at sunrise for the morning walk to explore this remote and wild area with varied terrain and habitats where the game is shy and unused to man. From ants to buffalo, a bird’s nest to tracking a lion, you will learn the many facets of the bush. The mobile camp will be packed and moved to Camp 2 and lunch will be ready as you arrive late morning. Lunch will be followed by siesta and an afternoon walk.

Day 4 - 6: Mobile Camp
Day four will be spend exploring the area on foot before returning to the same campsite. On day five the camp will be moved again to camp 3 during the morning as you walk further down the river. The Mupamadzi River is a major tributary of the Luangwa. All walks are led by an experienced naturalist and accompanied by an armed game scout.

Day 7: Tena Tena or Nsefu Camp
After an early breakfast, transfer to the Luangwa River crossing point opposite Tena Tena. This is a 4 to 5 hour drive. Tena Tena staff will meet and boat the party across the river for a 20 minute drive to Tena Tena camp.

Meaning ‘heaven’ in our local language, Mwamba is the quintessential African bushcamp.   Our intimate camp features just 4 rustic rooms, authentically recreated each year using woven reed, thatch and other natural materials. 

The rooms are perched overlooking the dry, meandering Mwamba riverbed with comfortable, shaded verandas from which to enjoy the abundant birdlife and feeling of total serenity.

Gauzed skylights offer views of the stars enjoyed from the luxury of your deep, king size bed.  Clean and silent solar power provides each room with lighting and cooling fans for the summer months. The ensuite, outdoor bathrooms elevate the bush experience further with carved stone basins and steaming hot bucket showers allowing you to feel even more emersed in and connected with nature.

Delicious meals and stories of the day’s encounters are shared around the glowing campfire with our central bar and dining area snugly located under the shade of twisted ebony trees.

When not out exploring the bush, guests can enjoy the camps famous 'Last waterhole hide'. A short walk from the camp, this productive hide is truly a wildlife enthusiasts dream spot.

Lion Camp is a privately owned safari lodge in one of the best safari locations in Zambia. with just 10 safari suites, it is built on the edge of an oxbow lagoon which attracts a wide variety of wildlife. Game viewing in and around camp is spectacular with lions, leopards, wild dogs, large herds of elephant and buffalo, the highest concentration of hippo in Africa, incredible bird viewing, and plentiful sightings of the unique Thornicroft’s Giraffe, Cookson’s Wildebeest and Crawshay’s Zebra. Kafue River Lodge is your reward at the end of your journey into the North-Eastern Kafue. The stretch of the Kafue River where the lodge is located is varied, gentle and favoured by wildlife. The focus of Lake Camp is exploring the Southern Kafue wildlife that is found around Lake Itezhi-tezhi. Here, the mega herbivores like elephant, buffalo and hippo are more common than down on the Plains and so the incredible diversity and variety that Nanzhila is known for delivering simply gets broader with the addition of Lake Camp. In addition to the variety of species, the open floodplains and shorelines around the edges of Lake Itezhi-tezhi make for a stunning wildlife experience.

Shoebill Island Camp is tucked away in indigenous thicket and faces out onto the Bangweulu wetlands. Bangweulu means where water meets the sky, a perfect description for one of the most extraordinary and important wetlands in all of Africa. It is unique in that it is a community-owned protected area and is home to 50,000 people who retain the right to sustainably harvest its natural resources for their survival and livelihoods. The fish and wildlife populations were rapidly diminishing as a result of unsustainable harvesting. This all changed in 2008 when African Parks signed an agreement with the Zambian Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW) to work with the communities to sustainably manage the wetland for the benefit of both people and wildlife.

Tafika Camp’s location on the east bank of the Luangwa River, north of the Nsefu Sector of the South Park, makes it ideal for those who enjoy the serenity of the bush. Here, exceptional game viewing is combined with exciting activities including daily day and night drives, mountain bike safaris, walking safaris, visits to the local Mkasanga Village and microlighting in May (only offered in May). Tafika also has two hides which offer the opportunity of game viewing in-between activities. Hides overlook the camp waterhole which is frequented by herds of elephant, bushbuck, puku, impala, mongoose and several bird species.

The Nsefu sector boasts some of the finest leopard viewing in Africa. This, combined with the abundance of diverse game populations; some of the most experienced guides in the valley, and the unusual and exhilarating safari activities available, make for an unforgettable African adventure. Potato Bush Camp lies adjacent to its sister camp, Sausage Tree Camp. With a stunning panoramic view overlooking the Zambezi River and escarpment, this site is nestled under Mahogany, Sausage, Winter Thorn and Acacia Tortillas Trees, which provide excellent shade.

Accommodation at Potato Bush Camp comprises 3 well-appointed canvas and rosewood Safari Tents and also a 2-bedroom Family Tent.

The Safari Tents are very spacious and have en suite bathrooms with twin showers, twin basins and a full size four-claw bath tub.  Large folding doors lead onto the large balcony which hosts a 2-person hammock and a private plunge pool, with well-appointed furniture to complement the ambiance and architecture of the safari tents.  Two of the Luxury Safari Tents are furnished with king-size beds while the 3rd Safari Tent is a twin.

The 2-bedroom Family House is a 21m wide  "safari tent" offering a large central living, dining and balcony area which divides the two bedrooms.  Both bedrooms have their own en suite bathrooms with twin showers, twin basins and large four-claw bath tubs (with a view).  The Family House also features a plunge pool, fully stocked bar and fridge, private dining table and furniture that complements both the style of the tent and the surrounding environment.  Extra beds can be added in any of the rooms.

All beds are covered with large walk around four-poster mosquito nets and each fitted with a fan.  24-hour electricity is supplied to all rooms for charging batteries, cameras, computers etc.

Luambe offers a remote safari in a National Park that is being restored through conservation.

The Lindsey et al. report of 2014 found Luambe National Park has the highest potential large mammal biomass per square kilometre of all Zambian National Parks! That means Luambe National Park should have the highest volume of large mammals for its size in Zambia. Tragically, the 2014 report found the park only had a staggering 5% of its wildlife potentila due to poaching and a lack of resources.

Luambe Camp & Conservation was formed to change this and over the last 6 years, has been quietly achieving amazing results. Visiting Luambe is both a remote and private Luangwa safari and gives guests the chance to see and participate in various conservation activities being done on the ground.

Takwela Camp, the latest camp operated by Remote Africa Safaris, opened in July 2019 in the North Luangwa. The North Luangwa is a remote and well-managed park which enjoys significant support from Frankfurt Zoological Society and a highly motivated complement of staff from Zambia’s Department of National Parks and Wildlife and North Luangwa Conservation Project.

Takwela Camp is situated on Remote Africa’s private land at the confluence of the Luangwa and Mwaleshi Rivers and has stunning views across a resident hippo pod to pristine bush on all sides.

Takwela accommodates a maximum of eight guests in four en-suite chalets, with two double beds in three and one king bed in the last chalet. In keeping with the Remote Africa ethos, the camp is solar powered and built, primarily, from local natural materials and constructed with local skills.

Mchenja is the local name for ebony, and the camp is tucked into a shady ebony grove beside the Luangwa River in the heart of South Luangwa National Park.

Its five safari tents (including a two-bedroom, two-bathroom family safari tent) are pure, natural elegance with grass walls, soft cushions and light-as-air curtains. Each has a feather-top bed, large picture windows and open air en-suite bathroom with a bath looking out onto the river.

At breakfast, listen to a chorus of birdsong and laughing hippos. Between safari activities, relax in the refreshing pool overlooking the Luangwa river.

Pull yourself away from camp to track big cats through the bush with hushed voices and beating hearts. Night drives are always rewarding, with the bush revealing a different nocturnal surprise every time. Chikoko Trails incorporates two small and exclusive bush camps, Chikoko Tree Camp and Big Lagoon (previously known as Crocodile River Camp). Located on the west bank in the South Luangwa National Park, a few kilometres upstream from parent camp Tafika, Chikoko and Big Lagoon are only accessible on foot and offer unparalleled walking safaris – being immersed in the idyll of remotest Africa. The professionalism and skills of our guides are what get you to the best sightings with the fewest number of humans around. We normally limit numbers to six guests per vehicle and our guides use their guiding skills, not their radios, to find the game. You might sit listening to the sounds of the bush, alone in the wilderness, when the guide hears an alarm call. What better way to find a leopard?

The South Luangwa is one of the few parks in Africa to allow night drives, and the guides’ knowledge of animal behaviour really pays off after dark. Knowing where predators might hunt, which other predators might be around to take advantage, and how to ensure we don’t interfere with the normal behaviour of these animals is crucial to your enjoyment.
