KwaMbili Game Lodge provides an authentic safari experience at an affordable price. KwaMbili is situated in the Thornybush Game Reserve near Hoedspruit, within the Greater Kruger area. The Bush House lies in the western region of the 75 000 hectare, big five, malaria free Madikwe Game Reserve. An old farmhouse, which has been converted into a luxury lodge, the 6 large suites ensure privacy. Owned and managed by Gordon and Sue Morrison, service is second to none. The Bush House welcomes families, friends and honeymooners alike. There’s room for everyone. Big sprawling lawns and luscious gardens roll out towards the large waterhole in front of the lodge, which is frequented daily by game coming down for a drink. Tau Game lodge is located in the northern sector of the malaria free, big five Madikwe Game Reserve. One of the first lodges to be built in Madikwe Game Reserve, Tau is suitable for large groups, conferences, families and couples. Accommodation consists of standard suites, deluxe suites, a family unit and a family suite all overlooking the huge waterhole in front of the lodge. Motswiri Private Safari Lodge, situated in the western side of the 75 000 hectare, Big Five, malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve in the North West Province. As its name suggests, Motswiri Private Safari Lodge is an exclusive lodge offering guests a personal bush experience, which is impossible to replicate in larger concerns. The lodge offer some of the best views in Madikwe as well as the tranquil feeling given by the mature trees (mostly Leadwoods) under which the lodge’s main building, five luxury bush villas and the Luxury Family Villa nestle.

Wolmado is a self-catering and more budget friendly option, recommended for larger families and longer stays. This old homestead is comfortably furnished with beautiful country/farmhouse décor, and if you like you can still enjoy your meals at Mieliefontein only a few hundred meters away. Meals at Mieliefontein require pre-booking. The house has five bedrooms and can sleep twelve guests.

River Sands Villa is a combination of luxury and opulence with exceptional private views overlooking a watering hole, in the heart of the Timbavati Private Game Reserve. It is positioned alongside the Sohebele River, a tributary of the Nhlaralumi River. A custom designed waterfall pool feature overlooks the watering hole that attracts a variety of wildlife throughout the day. 

This opulent villa emits a private and luxurious feeling with 2 spacious suites connected by the main lodge area with a large fireplace which makes up the heart of this villa.  The villa is a personification of the term: “Space is Luxury”

The Timbavati forms part of the Greater Kruger Park and offers exceptional game viewing including all the Big Five, most notably leopard, and also wild dog. Once again privacy is accentuated in the twice-daily game drives on the villa’s private game vehicle, which provide for close encounters with birds and animals, large and small.

We have realized that there are an increasing number of people who would prefer an affordable and rustic camp idea, especially when spending more time in the area. The Karoo Gariep Tent sleeps four guests in two separate tent compartments. The tent is furnished with a double bed in the back and two single beds in the front part, with private ablution facilities for each tent a mere thirty meters away! The tent is pitched in the New Holme Guest House Garden and has some privacy from the rest of the lodge. The three tents have access to all the facilities at New Holme. Linnen and towels are provided in the tented accommodation.

The setting

Nestled against a low hill with sweeping views of plains and dolerite-capped mountains, Plains Camp blends into its natural surroundings whilst providing a front row view to this piece of paradise and its plentiful wildlife. Zebra, black wildebeest, springbok and gemsbok meander these plains, alongside giraffe, ostrich and cheetah — the tableau only further enhanced by the unmistakable call of the ground-dwelling korhaan bird.

The camp

Designed to touch the ground lightly and with sustainability in mind, the camp echoes the semi-permanence of mobile camps set up during safaris of yore. A communal mess tent houses an indoor dining and lounge space with open sides for soaking up the views. Antique and locally-made furnishings add a touch of authenticity to the setting without compromising on comfort, creating the perfect spot to cosy up with a book or binoculars. Lit by candlelight and oil lanterns, the camp has no electricity, but plenty of atmosphere. A small farm-style plunge pool provides respite from the midday heat.

The experience

A slow and considered experience focusing on guided walking safaris is designed to bring the semi-arid ecosystem to life. Daily morning bush walks focus on the little things so often ignored or unseen from the vehicle. Tracks, flowering Karoo bossies, ostrich eggs and beetles — all these natural wonders form part of the days sightings. In the afternoon, game drives provide an undeniable thrill as guests are able to get up close with cheetah, rhinoceros and giraffe under the supervision of expert guides and trackers. As the coolness of evening approaches, sundowners are just what the doctor ordered, followed by spectacular stargazing.

Guest tents

Four deluxe guest tents are positioned to enjoy spectacular undisturbed mountain views, providing a tranquil sanctuary to return to after a long day of exploring. Theres nothing quite like "champagne air" to make for a restful nights sleep! Tastefully furnished with all the essentials, the intimate bedroom and seating area are warmed by a small fireplace in winter and cooled by a fan in summer. A simple en-suite bathroom at the back of the tent contains an indoor loo, a washbasin and a separate open-air "bucket" shower — filled from the outside with hot water on request.

Dining

Simple, wholesome meals are cooked by the chef over the campfire and taken either in the well-appointed mess tent or al fresco under a Jacketplum tree. A bar in the mess tent stocks a variety of chilled drinks as well as tea, coffee and Amarula hot chocolate.

The Amakhosi Safari Lodge is situated in the Amakhosi Private Game Reserve, on the banks of the Mkuze River, right in the heart of Zululand. Antbear Lodge is situated in the Drakensberg region of KwaZulu Natal near to Giants Castle. What makes our lodge particularly special is that we offer accommodation in a luxury cave. This is an accommodation unit built under a rock. Glass doors open onto a wooden deck with hammock chairs and a spectacular view of the Drakensberg Mountains. This is a luxury eco experience. The cave is cozy and comfortable with features like a Jacuzzi spa bath and a fireplace and even has rock art on its walls.

Antbear Lodge also offers horse trails ideally suited to beginners. Hot air balloon flights that launch from the lawn in front of the lodge and our newest attraction is our star gazing hammock camp where we tell the Zulu stories of the stars.

Trails usually depart on Mondays and Thursdays.

Pioneering and nomadic in spirit, Loapi Tented Camp’s six individual safari homes are surrounded by open savannah grasslands and accommodate two or four guests for the ultimate private wilderness experience.

The 4 one-bedroom homes and 2 two-bedroom homes, spanning over 300 square metres (about 3200 square feet) and over 400 square metres (about 4600 square feet) respectively, are for those desiring complete privacy on safari. Sustainably designed and environmentally sensitive, each tented home is tucked into the contours of a valley between the Korannaberg mountains. The six homes are at least 50 metres (165 feet) apart to ensure privacy and solitude.

Personal service is provided by a dedicated butler and all meals are prepared by a private chef in the interactive kitchen. As with all our camps, a private safari vehicle, guide and tracker is guaranteed.

Berg-en-Dal is situated on the bank of the Matjulu Spruit with a view of softly undulating hills to the east.
